Job Summary:

The Senior Electrical Design Engineer (New Product Development) will be involved in hardware development of high-performance uninterruptable power supplies (UPS) and power conditioner products used in various applications, including medical, semiconductor manufacturing, flight simulation, imaging, audio/video, and retail. This position is part of a multi-disciplined engineering team in Waukegan, IL. We are looking for a motivated professional with strong skills in circuit design and electrical subsystem design, and excellent communication skills. This position reports to the VP of Engineering.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead electrical design activities for new product development projects, including AC/DC UPS systems, DC Power Supplies, Inverters, Battery Chargers, and Surge/Noise Protection products
  • Assist with hardware development strategy and execution for long-range product and technology development
  • Identify the need for and establish new processes / procedures for electronics development working with product development partners globally to ensure common processes are being utilized
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies suitable for Powervar/ESP and adjacent product categories
  • Solve problems as a result of component obsolescence and lead time issues
  • Create prototype hardware (design and build hardware to test concepts)
  • Design, implement, and execute tests in support of design verification
  • Participate in and manage hardware design reviews
  • Create an environment that supports collaboration and enhances performance, engagement, adaptability, and flexibility
  • Build synergy among the businesses by optimizing resources and sharing knowledge
  • Work with Sales and Marketing to develop new product requirement documents
  • Report on the status and progress of engineering projects

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • 5 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Circuit design experience
  • Product development experience

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of modern manufacturing methods in test, assembly, and fabrication areas in the power electronics industry
  • Understanding of PCB design conventions for signal and power integrity and minimizing noise coupling
  • Experience using electrical circuit simulation tools
  • Knowledge of testing and design with respect to agency approvals UL, CE, IEC, IEEE, etc.
  • Working knowledge of power electronics design
  • Prior design experience with DC to DC Converters (100W to 10kW)
  • Prior design experience with Single Phase UPS Systems (both HF & LF)
