Summary of Position:

 

This position is accountable to develop and implement continuous improvement strategies that drive a culture of safety, quality, productivity, and efficiencies in manufacturing operations. The Continous Improvement Engineer will be responsible for driving quick improvements in targeted departments while working towards sustainable long-term improvements across operations.

 

 

Position Requirements:

 

BS or MS in Materials, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering with minimum 5-8 years’ experience in manufacturing operations. Past process engineering experience in manufacturing industry. For example, medical, electronics, automotive, aerospace, oil and gas, metals, machinery, etc.  Experience with laser processing of metals, ceramics, and polymers along with value-add assembly manufacturing is preferred. 

 

A proven track record of improving internal operations through the application of Six Sigma, Lean, DMAIC, PDCA, FMEA, Poka-Yoke, 5S, Standardized Work, PFEP, A3 Methodology, Visual Factory, and Kaizen initiatives. The Continous Improvement engineer will work closely with manufacturing, quality, and engineering to drive the continuous improvement projects through operations.

 

Demonstrated self-motivation, pro-activeness, time management skills, superior work habits and business acumen. Highly organized and able to prioritize and manage time efficiently with the ability to handle stress in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. Ability to adapt to altering situations, to persist despite setbacks, and to get things done. Ability to work under tight time constraints, handle sensitive data, and multitask so that deadlines can be met.

 

The proven ability to work productively with individuals at all levels inside and outside the organization.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Work with Operations, Engineering and Quality to develop Continuous Improvement strategies that directly support operational goals.
  • Identify and manage the list of projects that compose Material, VA/VE, LCR, and Other OpEx savings opportunities.
  • Lead strategic initiatives for cost reduction, quality improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Ability to work within the plant at all levels utilizing a very “hands on” approach as the lead change facilitator for the operation’s Continuous Improvement efforts.
  • Facilitate and drive change in a fast paced and “ever changing” environment leveraging their strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and training to project teams on the use and practice of Lean methodologies and tools.
  • Identify and drive Kaizens and focused Continuous Improvements events to implement improvement initiatives working closely with Manufacturing managers and operators.
  • Utilize Lean principles and Best Practices to establish new work standards for Machines, Processes, and People, to generate productivity savings, improve quality, enhance safety, and increase OTD.
  • Utilize strategies and standards to improve equipment reliability, with initial focus on critical or bottleneck equipment.
  • Develop and create reports to measure progress and report Key Performance Indicator’s (KPI’s) to Management Team
  • Maintain a self-improvement program through conferences, seminars, courses and readings to continue to develop expertise in Lean manufacturing and Operational Excellence.
  • Teach Ametek OpEx culture by example.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

 

  • Experience in a high mix, high volume, process manufacturing environment focused on metal products. 
  • Practical experience implementing Lean manufacturing.
  • Strong communication, project management, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to read prints, specifications, schematics, drawings, and other technical documentation.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity and experience using SPC & ERP, Visio, Miro, SPC, and Process Simulation software.
