Job Summary:

The Business Segment Controller will be the finance lead for the Business Manager and will provide financial analysis which supports strategic choices to improve the profitability of the business. The day-to-day activities will involve planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial-related activities. This includes direct responsibility for accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning and cost accounting.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Business Manager and management to drive unit performance in achieving budgeted and forecasted financial metrics
  • Take a direct role and oversee all aspects of the finance and accounting functions of the organization. Self-perform many critical tasks.
  • Ensure credibility by providing timely and accurate financial statements, analyzing budgets and financial trends and working with the sales and operations teams on forecasting
  • Develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the executive team and make actionable recommendation on both strategy and operations
  • Continuously evaluate short and long term strategic financial objectives
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives to identify their needs and seek a full range of business solutions
  • Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities
  • Ensure that effective internal controls are adhered to and comply with GAAP, SOX, ASC 606 and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting
  • Drive activities regarding working capital management
  • Participate in physical inventories
  • Review spending requests for capital expenditures, research and development projects, and major expense projects and provide financial guidance on business unit investments
  • Participate in special projects, including acquisition opportunities, and compile a variety of special reports
  • Supervise a small team of finance employees

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of 6-8 years of progressive financial experience with at least 2 years in a financial management and leadership role
  • Knowledge of GAAP, SOX, and ASC 606
  • Experience with monthly/quarterly closings
  • Experience with compliance and documentation
  • Cost accounting skills
  • Experience developing forecasts, budgets and long-term strategic plans
  • Computer skills – pivot tables, look-up formulas

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • MBA and/or CPA
  • Oracle and HFM background
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and draw conclusions based on accurate and timely analysis
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results orientation
  • Strong reasoning skills
  • Team player with a positive attitude

This position is located in Waukegan, Illinois, approximately midway between Chicago and Milwaukee. Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, Waukegan offers year-round special events and an emphasis on the arts.
