Scope of Role:

The role is to assist in the support of ongoing production, NPI and New Technology electrical motors and generators for aerospace, land-based systems and the oil and gas industries. The role requires an enthusiastic mechanically minded electrical engineer with experience working in the field of electrical motors/generators as well as having a good understanding of motor and generator operation fundamentals. The candidate will be required to work proactively within a high energy multi-disciplined and inter-departmental team including project leaders, project managers, Senior/Principal Engineers as well as shop floor production staff to support solution delivery. Flexibility and practical mindset will be essential as support will vary daily from various design activities to “hands on” testing and prototype test rig building support. The candidate will be involved in full product development lifecycle including bids/proposals and R&D activities.

 

Main Duties/Responsibilities

 

  • Assist the design of BLDC, Synchronous PM and Induction motors and generators.
  • Review detailed technical drawings/CAD Models of motor/generator components, manufacturing, and test setup tooling to a high standard.
  • Support test rig design and build activities within the multi-disciplined engineering team.
  • Carry out testing on new and existing motors and generators.
  • Support production for engineering–based issues on motor and generator products.
  • Produce engineering reports, specifications, compliance statements, acceptance test procedures etc. to a high standard.
  • Work proactively within high energy multidisciplinary and inter-departmental teams to support production, NPI and New Technology project needs.
  • Preparation of technical proposals, ROM costings, and associated documentation to support business development.
  • Providing technical support to the sales teams to secure new business.
  • Support occasional sales visits to customers both in the UK and overseas.

 

 

Professional Knowledge & Experience:

  1. Experience in the field of electrical motor and generators which includes BLDC, Synchronous PM and Induction types.
  2. Able to develop equipment within the constraints of a highly regulated industry and in consideration of technical/commercial requirements; designing for cost and manufacturing, having a right first time approach and balancing the engineering and programme needs of the customer.
  3. Have a good understanding of electrical motor and generator operation and design principles, electrical engineering and requirements-based engineering.
  4. Able to work proactively and demonstrate flexibility within a multi-disciplined engineering team.
  5. Mechanically minded having a good level of practical “hands on” experience working with motor/generator test rigs and test equipment.
  6. Basic working knowledge of materials and selection.
  7. Familiar working with Autodesk Inventor (or similar).
  8. Able to communicate and influence at all levels of the hierarchy through presentations, verbally and written, especially directed at customer interaction
