Position Summary:
The Senior Operational Excellence Engineer liaises with business leaders to identify, assess, and analyze opportunities for continuous improvement, directly interacts with business teams to align training and improvement plans with their strategic objectives and ensures that projects have clear ownership within the business to drive execution.
- Key objectives of the position are to provide overall Operational Excellence program support via:
- Coaching and mentoring of the Operational Excellence philosophies and tools to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity improvement targets
- Development of Current and Future State value stream maps that provide business teams with a roadmap for driving a balanced scorecard (Customer, Finance, People, Quality) through safety, quality, delivery, inventory, cost productivity and capability (SQDIPC) improvements.
- Drive space optimization to improve asset utilization and support cost savings initiatives.
- This individual will be responsible for management of a structured Project Management program, including coaching and mentoring of the tools and concepts. This individual will also lead key business projects.
- Aligns Business Unit (BU) / Divisional OpEx Steering Committee activities with business strategy to target most impactful projects and facilitates determination of the project methodology to be applied (Project Management, Major Projects, Kaizen, 1-Hr Problem Solving, RCCM, Just Do It, etc.) to ensure effective execution.
- Partners with BU/DIV leadership team in defining the overall strategies necessary to improve customer, operational and financial performance and achieve its goals and in support of the business OpEx vision as well as accelerate the cultural changes necessary to promote Operational Excellence as defined by the Growth Model.
- Lead and facilitate continuous improvement efforts in support of corporate strategic goals; including providing lean training to departments and teams and leading kaizen events.
- Challenge organizational leaders as necessary to create an action-biased culture of continuous improvement and accountability to improve their KPI’s, including growth, productivity, asset utilization, inventory, and customer allegiance.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead utilization of the Operational Excellence within the LCR Campus in support of Business Units need.
- Know which and when to apply various continuous improvement tools and concepts to effectively execute key business projects
- In conjunction with the Business/Divisional/Corporate Operational Excellence leaders, successfully execute the Operational Excellence strategic roadmap
- Establish and work closely with the Operational Excellence Core Team to identify ways to accelerate culture change and embed the Operational Excellence as a ‘way-of-life’ within the Campus
- Partner with other Operational Excellence leaders across the company to manage and support cross-GEO and cross-functional improvement activities.
- Provides technical support for plant layout, purchase of equipment, upgrade of equipment, feasibility studies.
- Collaborate in the improvement of the efficiency and productivity of production lines and equipment.
- Identifies areas for improvement in processing efficiencies, capacity, energy, safety, and environmental systems.
- Assists with development and coaching of junior engineering staff.
- Complies with all EHS and Quality procedures and policies.
- Responsible for quality of own work, precision, accuracy, transparency, and timeliness.
- Deliver training in the Operational Excellence such as lean leadership, value stream mapping, kaizen, daily management, waste and variation elimination, material flow, standard work, cellular flow, SMED, 5S, visual management, lean sourcing, lean office, built-in quality, etc.
- Act as a change agent and constantly challenge the status quo.
- Identify best practices within and outside the company, and serve as a conduit for best practice sharing and adoption across the business to promote the Operational Excellence benefits.
- Challenge organizational leaders as necessary to create an action-biased culture of continuous improvement and proliferate OpEx and Lean thinking throughout the organization
- Provide guidance and collaborates for chartering of projects and kaizen events
- Manage and facilitate continuous improvement projects and Kaizen events to improve productivity and accelerate growth, as well as improve space utilization.
- Capture & record training and project improvements. Align projects to support business needs and targets.
- Communicate, provide required reports & information and participate in reporting processes as part of the Business Management Processes; Champion, track, measure and report on OpEx impact / savings and Operational Excellence maturity monthly.
- Partner with Finance personnel to evaluate project savings estimates, validate reported OpEx benefits, and ensure accurate accounting of OpEx Initiatives Impact.
- Responsible for coordinating Root Cause Countermeasure process to close Gaps in business KPIs and OpEx goals/objectives.
- Support development of OpEx Black belts and kaizen leaders within the business functional areas to support on-going process improvement.
- Manage the Business’ Operational Excellence resource Skills & Capabilities matrix
- May periodically be assigned to lead specific projects across the Business Unit, Division, Group or company, which align with the OpEx strategic plan and AMETEK objectives.
- Transfer OpEx knowledge and build internal OpEx bench strength to drive a sustainable improvements and growth.
- Actively use CAD/CAM software to update layout improvements.
- Performs other duties as needed, based on business requirement.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- Preferable experience working in manufacturing, with emphasis on space optimization and layout re-design
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial or manufacturing engineering
- Experience working in recognized Lean business system
- Formal lean training and comprehensive knowledge of Lean and continuous improvement methodologies and tools, a plus
- Proven implementation track record delivering results
- 5-7 years relevant experience

- Demonstrated experience using financial reports, and other related reporting tools.
- Proficient in use of Microsoft 365 Suite and ability to master a variety of software applications (ERP, LMS, Virtual Collaboration & Reality platforms, Analytical platforms, CMMS, Agile, etc.)
- Possess demonstrated knowledge of ISO/OSHA/GMP and other regulatory requirements.
- Detailed knowledge of quality theory and lean tools and methodologies
- Broad knowledge of multi-functional, multi-site, global organizational processes and financial business methods
