Position Summary:
We are currently seeking a skilled Application Scientist who will be responsible for supporting the sales and marketing efforts of Gatan’s highly successful scanning electron microscopy (SEM) product line. The preferred location for this position is based at Gatan’s Pleasanton, CA headquarters but will support SEM products worldwide.
The Application Scientist - SEM will:
- Provide pre-sales applications support with presentations and demonstrations of Gatan products on a range of SEM models.
- Drive the development of new applications by working closely with key customers, presenting at scientific conferences, and writing scientific articles.
- Provide post-sales customer support and on-site customer training. Tasks include general applications support, phone/email support, and limited hardware and software troubleshooting.
- Work with Gatan R&D in the development and testing of new products and applications.
Application Scientist - SEM Position Requirements:
- Advanced degree in science or engineering (or equivalent experience) is required.
- Strong experience in electron microscopy (SEM and/or FIB-SEM), specifically in relation to the acquisition, application, interpretation and, discussion of results from analytical methods including X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and spectroscopic cathodoluminescence (CL).
- Track record of implementing novel solutions to material analysis challenges.
- Clear focus on enabling our customers with the ability to interface effectively with customers at all experience levels while projecting a strong client service attitude.
- Demonstrated excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work on complex learning and development problems as well as teach highly technical information is essential.
- Ability to handle and prioritise multiple requests at any given time.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in English are essential.
- Ability to manage approximately 40% both domestic and international travel required.
Desirable experience:
- Experience in characterizing materials or minerals using SEM and techniques such as electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) and/or wavelength dispersive spectroscopy (WDS) analysis
- Research experience in lithium-ion battery or LED and laser materials and devices
