Summary

The Business Unit Controller is an essential member of the Precitech leadership team contributing to the development and execution of the business’s annual strategic plan. The

Controller will drive the financial results of the business as an analytical business partner to the VP, Business Unit Manager and will lead a small team of professionals. The team will manage the ongoing financial accounting, planning, forecasting and analysis including sales target revenue, inventory, working capital and profit margin. The Business Unit Controller will have additional oversight of the Information Technology function to meet the changing needs of the business.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Make strategic recommendations to optimize revenue growth, improve working capital performance, and drive operating profit year over year.
  • Work proactively and collaboratively with business unit functional leaders to solve problems and advise on how business actions may affect the financials:
    • Operations – help in managing and reducing inventory levels and in looking at the overall production process to optimize working capital
    • Engineering – work on the budgeting process and implementing better time keeping so the business can allocate engineering costs more accurately
    • Sales – help sales team think through pricing to ensure proposed contracts are achieving appropriate level of profitability
    • IT - identify ways that technology can improve business performance and streamline processes
  • Provide regular and completely transparent updates to all stakeholders including Divisional VP of Finance and roll up to Corporate Finance team.
  • Present credibly during senior management presentations to Corporate leadership team while providing evidence backed data and strategic recommendations.
  • Prepare monthly and year-end financial statements for the business segment.
  • Reconcile sales and profit performance to forecast, budget or prior year data
  • Lead the preparation and management of Working Capital analysis.
  • Budget preparation plan by engaging appropriate staff members and ensure the presentation is aligned with the business unit executive format.
  • Control payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general accounting and cost accounting functions to insure process controls are efficient and effective.
  • Coach and develop finance staff members on issues relating to people skills, company policy and good decision-making skills.
  • Provide support with operational issues to insure profitable growth.
  • This is a highly hands on role with a focus on detail, which requires the ability to work quickly and accurately on an independent basis, giving great attention to detail and displaying the initiative to quickly identify and resolve variances, failures and discrepancies.

 

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance is required. An MBA or MA degree in Finance or Accounting is preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in general and/or plant accounting, including an understanding of forecasting, budgeting, costing and inventory control. Public accounting experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a company with  global presence.
  • 5+ years and proven ability to lead a financial team.
  • Demonstrated ability to make strategic recommendations to advance business objectives.
  • Familiarity with financial analysis related to capital equipment product lines; identify trends related to operational improvement and revenue enhancement (sales, service, and leasing).
  • Write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships and influence the decision making of senior executives.
  • Executive presence with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse group of people successfully.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
