Job Summary:

The Sustaining Engineering Manager will lead the engineering team responsible for Engineered-to-Order (Specials Group), Sustaining Engineering and Continuous Improvement, all to support current manufacturing.  As an engineering leader, the successful candidate will work closely with sales, manufacturing, purchasing, return merchandise authorization (RMA), and quality and perform the following duties:

 

  • Manage escalated customer cases and issues
  • Lead and manage custom engineering of power conversion systems, particularly on-line, double-conversion Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS) and Power Distribution Units (PDU)
  • Touch every part of the development cycle from conceptual design, system engineering, component selection to implementation, testing, and qualification for standard product derivation systems
  • Guide efforts driving value engineering, qualifying alternate parts and continuous evolution of product range

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Engineered-to-Order (Specials) organization and engage with Sales / customers from the bid specification stage to delivering engineered preproduction model(s).  Initiate complete and accurate documentation release for the future production build of this product.
  • Own complete system engineering layout and component selection responsibility for Engineered-to-Order (Specials) projects
  • Manage the AMETEK IntelliPower product family tree to ensure 100% of supported stock keeping units (SKU’s) have complete documentation & design material.  Leverage family tree to enhance sales ability to find “best fit” options for customers and utilize documents to provide input to sales.
  • Manage Sustaining Engineering and support production, RMA and highly escalated customer cases, failure analysis & drive Value Engineering (VA/VE) initiatives
  • Work closely with quality team and drive continuous improvement of released products
  • Monitor components obsolescence risk and manage alternate design or component qualification to ensure business continuity as may be required
  • Work closely with product development team, participate in design reviews and be the “voice of the customer” in driving defect-free design based on existing designs and lessons learned
  • Create and manage tasks in alignment with long-term company and corporate goals
  • Work closely with cross-functional team with a diverse array of talents and responsibilities
  • Ensure goals are met in terms of customer satisfaction, safety, quality, and team performance
  • As a member of the Change Control Board (CCB), represent engineering and support decision making
  • Sign off on engineering change notifications (ECN), review for accuracy and guide closure
  • Meet with stakeholders to ensure transparency and open communication regarding project issues and assessments
  • Produce accurate and timely reporting of program status throughout its life cycle
  • Evaluate program risks and triggering actions

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in UPS design
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience

  • Sustaining engineering experience
  • Exposure to military power supply requirements
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse teams under pressure
  • Ability to communicate with customers on sensitive and complex technical matters
  • Continuous improvement mindset with decision making skills in alignment with business needs
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives under time and budget constraints
  • Experience using computers for a variety of tasks including proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Vizio, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
  • Understanding of project management
  • Understanding of document control protocols
