Ametek IntelliPower, located in Orange, California, has been designing, manufacturing, and supporting high-performance, cost-effective ruggedized Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS) and frequency/voltage conversion solutions to protect mission-critical applications. IntelliPower’s online, double-conversion UPS power conditioner and frequency/voltage converter solutions utilize digitally controlled, high-efficiency power switching technology.


Job Summary:


As a Power Electronics Engineering Intern, you will assist the UPS engineering team responsible for custom product design, sustaining engineering, continuous improvement, and manufacturing support.  You will touch every part of the product development lifecycle, from conceptual design, system engineering, and component selection to implementation, testing, and qualification. You will assist in efforts driving value engineering and supporting the continuous evolution of the product range.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Contribute to UPS Design: Assist in the electrical design of UPS systems, including schematic development and component selection
  • Technical Documentation: Create comprehensive documentation such as design specs, user guides, data sheets, and test protocols to support engineering activities
  • Assist the Engineering-to-Order team from initial bid specifications through to the delivery of pre-production models. Prepare electrical documentation necessary for future production
  • Help in debugging and bringing up prototypes


Minimum Qualifications:


  • We welcome candidates who are either recent graduates or are currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Electrical Engineering specializing in Power Electronics
  • Candidates must possess the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics accurately
  • Candidates must have knowledge of electronic device characteristics, gate drivers, thermal design, magnetics, and power electronics topologies (AC/DC, DC/DC & DC/AC)
  • Candidates must have knowledge of single and 3 phase power


 Desired Qualifications:


  • Experience with PCB design tools such as Altium
  • Experience with online, dual-conversion uninterruptible power supply (UPS), battery storage systems, and various battery chemistries
  • Ability to analyze component datasheets to select and find alternates
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to use oscilloscope and power meters and experience using other test equipment for a variety of tasks and experimental applications

Schedule – The internship is part-time, Monday through Friday, 20-28 hours per week

Salary Minimum:  $40,000
