Job Description

Under general supervision, performs complex assignments to develop, qualify and ZYGO suppliers to ensure quality and performance of purchased goods. Work in a team environment as a key technical resource to develop new supply sources to improve cost competitiveness, increase capacity, and ensure a sustainable supply chain. Act as the ZYGO technical liaison to the supplier to make sure all specifications, performance requirements and test requirements are understood, and the suppliers are capable to meet ZYGO’s performance and quality requirements. Work with commodity managers and engineering to ensure early supplier collaboration on design for manufacturability and assembly.

 

Essential Functions

1. Identify, recommend, and qualify new suppliers through research, technical assessments, and qualification.

2. Provide necessary technical support and documentation to ensure new suppliers are capable of understanding ZYGO product requirements and supplier manufacturing and testing capabilities are adequate to meet ZYGO’s performance, cost, and delivery requirements.

3. Establish expertise in ZYGO machined parts through understanding of ZYGO’s product requirements, assembly and test processes, other best practices.

4. Qualify testing capabilities of suppliers and ensure measurement correlation is within acceptable range for the given requirements.

5. Assist with new product launch by working with engineering and suppliers to ensure that key milestones are achieved, and cost targets are met.

6. Work collaboratively and proactively with Procurement, Supplier Quality, and Commodity Managers to ensure smooth transition of new suppliers to an approved status.

7. Support supplier audits and commercial meetings to ensure suppliers are meeting ZYGO’s quality metrics.

8. Conduct benchmarking studies to determine best practices/designs and future trends.

9. Assist and guide ZYGO quality technicians in the inspection of first article samples for critical to function dimensions for visible defects and ensure compliance with all specifications.

10. Perform supplier quality assessments in support of the quality department.

11. Performs other related duties as assigned

 

Preferred Competencies

1. Working knowledge of manual and CNC machining of precision components and applicable testing processes.

2. Working knowledge of GD&T principles.

3. Experienced in manual and CNC machining operations.

4. Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and/or bills of materials (BOMs) sufficient to facilitate preparing quote packages that include all relevant documentation.

5. Understanding of the global supply chain technical competencies and economic advantages within optics, machining, and electronics manufacturing.

6. Self-Starter with strong ability to communicate in verbal and written form. Strong ability to follow verbal or written instructions.

7. Able to solve problems by collecting data and using critical thinking skills.

8. Able to use Power Point, Access, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Projects, and advanced Excel skills (for example the ability to use pivot tables, v-look ups, graphing and complex spreadsheets).

9. Ability to effectively communicate data and input from multiple sources. Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

10. Experience in leading cross-functional teams with an emphasis on demanding tolerances and inspection testing requirements.

11. Demonstrated ability to manage / lead multiple projects and changing priorities.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, hours depend upon shift assignment. Overtime will be required as job duties demand.

 

 

Travel – International and domestic is required

 

Required Education and Experience

  • B.S. in engineering, science or related and minimum 5 years’ experience in a high-mix, technical, manufacturing environment. A.S. degree and additional applicable experience in a precision machining environment would be considered.
  • Additional Eligibility and Qualifications
  • CMM programming and operations.
  • SolidWorks or other CAD experience.
