Job Description:
The Technical Support Group (TSG) Application Specialist is responsible for providing technical support to the existing customer base in support of all current and past product lines. The position will also support sales and require an adequate level of technical expertise in the use of gamma and alpha spectroscopy equipment in counting laboratories, government applications, and other varied institutional applications.
The TSG Application Specialist position will be responsible for the following activities:
- Provide expert guidance on the use and implementation of ORTEC systems, via direct contact in person at customer sites and also by electronic communication and phone support.
- Develop and present training materials to ORTEC based customers via in-person or virtual methods.
- Assist in training programs on the use and application of spectroscopy equipment and software
- Interact with customers, both internal and external, on issues such as a new application of standard ORTEC hardware and software, and specifications/definitions of turn-key systems and non-standard offerings,
- Interact with the worldwide nuclear sales team and technical support resources, providing technical support to aid in sales efforts and initiatives.
- Manage all incoming email and telephone inquiries and log relevant technical support efforts and support in the CRM system.
- Maintain scheduling, coordination, and execution of customer support requests and orders received for hardware/software installations, technical training, and general maintenance contract support.
- Ad hoc activities as requested.
- Support the German sales team with sales activities in the case high work load and/or absence of a sales engineer due to vacation or sick leave.
- Giving software demonstrations and doing software installations on site.
- Giving technical presentations on-site.
- Responsible for service and field service in Germany and working closely with our EU service department in the UK and/or in the USA.
- Responsible for sending and receiving failed or repaired products to and from our EU service center.
Position Requirements:
- Education in physics or chemistry with master/diploma or PhD or a similar qualification.

- German native speaker and proficient user of English in understanding, reading and writing.
Technical Knowledge:
- Self-motivated and self-organized and willing to learn nuclear instrumentation technical details and basics.
- Demonstrated experience in presentation, written, and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams and possess team leadership skills
- Field experience in nuclear instrumentation, commercial, academic, or government counting laboratory environment is desired
- Experience and skills utilizing Microsoft based desktop and cloud-based applications preferred (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive, …)
- Experience with analytical laboratory software is desired
Other Requirements:
- Travel is required—an estimated 50%, primarily in Germany and Northern Europe
- German driving license for cars
