Job Description: 

To join the busy R&D team as a technician you will be contributing to and taking responsibility for a wide variety of prototyping and testing activities.  You will be adept at handling and working with electrical systems and also with mechanical assemblies. You will be confident and competent with computers and connectivity.

Core skills:

  • PCB hand soldering to high quality (IPC-A-610 qualified is desirable), through hole and surface mount.
  • Cable assembly, soldering, crimping, and termination to a high standard.
  • Visual inspection coupled with fault-finding of both electrical and mechanical assemblies.
  • Follow test plans and accurately record test results, report results.
  • Ability to learn complex software tools such as motion controllers, and to be able to configure such software according to project requirements.

Core duties:

  • Support R&D projects in the selection and procurement of parts,
  • Construction of mechanical and electrical assemblies,
  • Construction of prototype cable assemblies,
  • Assembly of prototype PCBs,
  • Prototype evaluation against a test plan,
  • Prototype repair, rework, upgrade etc,
  • To support other departments as required (such as troubleshooting in production, or assisting with build and test of customised products).

This role will suit someone who is willing to work in a busy team, supporting multiple projects and issues concurrently, able to switch context at short notice. 

Taylor Hobson will support your professional development with training in the principles of metrology, R&D best practice, opportunity to learn and use software packages such as SolidWorks and Altium Designer.
