Job Description: 

As the Director, Finance for the Bison® business unit of AMETEK, Inc., you will coordinate accounting and compliance activities to meet the corporate objectives for accurately, timely, and comprehensively gauging its operating performance, recording and reporting its financial progress, and ensuring the continuing control and protection of its assets. In support of this goal, you must be a strong finance leader who can effectively perform financial planning and analysis.

 

What you will do:

  • Develop and prepare operating budgets within the framework of the profit plan.

    • Track deviations and communicate analysis of budget deviation to applicable activity manager.

    • Monitor the progress of budgeted and unbudgeted cost reduction activities.

  • Monitor actual expenses on a daily, weekly, and/or monthly basis, against the budget and monthly 5th day forecasts. Manage the analysis of all aspects of variances to recommend required corrections to production and general overhead departments.

  • Direct Plant Controllers in managing financial reporting, accounting procedures, and maintaining a robust control environment.  Responsible for maintenance of effective internal controls of operations to ensure continued control and protection of its assets and an accurate reporting of its financial position.   

  • Participate in the preparation of plant rates to ensure the accuracy of cost estimating, inventory evaluation, and fair measurement of production performance. Establish frozen standard costs on an individual part number basis and for annual standard cost change.

  • Prepare reports that summarize and forecast business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.

  • Assist all levels of management in understanding the budgets and the utilization of budget reporting techniques. Establish and maintain records to control expenses and to determine that all sums are properly accounted for.

  • Record and value all plant inventories and ensure the adequacy of all reserves in compliance with Business Unit and Corporate policies. Coordinate physical inventory schedules. Provide management review of monthly reconciliation of inventory status reports to the general ledger. Monitor all inventory controls for compliance.

  • Provide technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the function and business unit. 

  • Verify and maintain all asset and equipment records. Prepare and/or review capital appropriation requests for new equipment, tooling or other capital purchases. Monitor spending against appropriations to trigger supplemental requests. Ensure periodic counts of physical assets.

  • Perform monthly and year-end closings. Prepare month-end journal entries. Investigate unusual numbers generated during closings.

  • Audit expense reports for compliance with Company policies and government regulations.

Supervisory Responsibilities and Reporting Relationships:

  • You will be responsible for managing the plant controllers and accounting personnel. This includes the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these individuals. You will carry out supervisory responsibilities following the organization's policies and applicable laws.

    • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; coaching and developing;  planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

  • You will report directly to the Bison® VP, Business Unit Controller within a matrixed work environment within the Advanced Motion Solutions Division.

 

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; CPA, CMA, MBA a plus

  • At least 7 years of operating in a senior financial position preferably within a manufacturing environment

  • Strong background in US GAAP, ASC 606, ASC 842, and Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions for recommendations to management

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers
