Precitech designs and manufactures the world’s most advanced ultra-precision machining solutions for freeform diamond turning, milling, and grinding which are used to produce optical lenses, mold inserts, mirrors, and precision mechanical components for defense, aerospace, consumer optics and other high-tech industries. Our machines produce rotationally symmetric, asymmetric, freeform, and sculpted geometries with form tolerances and surface finishes measured at the nanometer level.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Quality Engineer to join our team in the optical manufacturing industry. The Quality Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the highest level of quality and precision in our optical components manufacturing process. This individual will be responsible for developing and implementing quality control procedures, conducting inspections, analyzing data, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement in our manufacturing operations.

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop and implement quality control processes and procedures for the optical manufacturing process, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Conduct regular inspections of machined optical components, utilizing advanced measurement tools such as interferometers, profilometers, and coordinate measuring machines (CMMs).
  • Perform accurate and comprehensive calibration of inspection equipment, ensuring traceability to national and international standards.
  • Conduct Measurement System Analysis (MSA), including Gage R&R studies, to assess the reliability and consistency of measurement systems. Interpret results to make data-driven decisions.
  • Analyze inspection data to identify trends, defects, and areas for improvement. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to address and resolve quality issues.
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to established machining parameters, tolerances, and specifications to maintain consistent product quality.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action processes for non-conformances, working closely with cross-functional teams to implement effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to provide quality input during the product development phase, ensuring designs are manufacturable and meet quality standards.
  • Perform process audits to assess manufacturing practices and identify opportunities for process optimization and waste reduction.
  • Participate in supplier quality management, including evaluating and qualifying new suppliers, conducting supplier audits, and working to improve supplier performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying areas for efficiency enhancement, cost reduction, and quality enhancement in the manufacturing process.
  • Maintain and update quality documentation, including work instructions, procedures, and inspection reports.
  • Train and educate production operators and other team members on quality control procedures, standards, and best practices.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and advancements in optical manufacturing and quality control.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Proven experience (3 years) as a Quality Engineer in a manufacturing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of optical components manufacturing processes, machining techniques, and precision measurement tools.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as ISO 10110 and ISO 9001.
  • Proficiency in using inspection equipment including interferometers, CMMs, profilometers, and other relevant measurement tools.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and quality control methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean, etc.).
  • Proficient in conducting Calibration, Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (Gage R&R) studies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to conduct thorough root cause analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintaining the highest level of quality.
  • Experience with quality management software and tools is a plus.
  • Certification in quality-related disciplines (e.g., ASQ certification) is desirable.
  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM software and CNC machining processes is beneficial.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic manufacturing environment.
