Position Summary:

The Director, Operations and Supply Chain is an experience operations management leader who will lead, manage, and drive the production, Facilities and Machine Maintenance, and responsible for managing and coordinating activities of personnel engaged in purchasing and distributing raw materials, component parts, sub systems, outsourcing, equipment, and supplies required for production.  This position is responsible for and manages the Production, Purchasing, Production Planning and Materials Teams.
 

Supervisory Responsibilties:

  • The position has direct reports but must be able to work in partnership with Engineering, Quality, and Production in support of the departmental objectives.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Establish and attain defined objectives in: sales, profit, working capital, linearity, on-time performance, productivity, scrap/rework reduction, and safety.
  • Establish budgets, manufacturing and sourcing strategies, objectives, event timetables, policies, capital, and labor requirements to support business objectives
  • Lead and direct the Production and Facilities departments in the reduction/elimination of Operational waste through deployment of lean practices OPEX and Six Sigma initiatives.  Will require coordination with Materials and Quality Assurance.
  • Direct staffing, training, and performance evaluations with the objective of developing a world class manufacturing team.
  • Direct environmental, health and safety program and dealing with regulatory agencies on related matters, as required.
  • Develop and implement manufacturing strategy and readiness to support business objectives including low cost manufacturing planning.
  • Preparation for senior management approval of strategic plans in support of long-range/short range objectives, organization, establish budgets and strategies, event timetables, policies, capital requirements, and labor requirements.
  • Ensure the requirements of the customer are met, optimizing product value, reducing cost and insuring on time delivery.
  • Establish metrics, measurements and tools to improve efficiency, effectiveness and communication.
  • Responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling the materials management, production planning, purchasing, receiving, warehousing, inventory control and shipping in support of the Garden City facility.
  • Prepares and manages planning processes and master scheduling regarding production materials used in the manufacture of customer products, WIP materials flow, procurement systems and shipping.
  • Manages, prepares and issues purchase orders and change notices to buyers and inter-company planners.
  • Analyzes market, supplier and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability in support of manufacturing.  
  • Negotiates for contract of outsourced production items.
  • Reviews purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.
  • Interacts with suppliers to address continuous reduction of lead-times, material costs and on time delivery for materials.
  • Manages and organizes buyer workloads and tasks to meet division production goals.
  • Ensures relevant flow down of purchase order quality and special requirements to suppliers.
  • Directs, instructs, and coordinates activities of direct reports engaged in Oracle ERP operations.
  • Meets with direct reports to discuss progress of work, resolve problems, and ensure that standards for quality and quantity of work are met.
  • Reviews and resolves daily activities and reports to detect errors.
  • Initiates and directs the material flow from procurement RFQ to production issue and final product shipping.
  • Manages and executes the issuance of Discrete Jobs to the production floor to support customer dock date commitments and upper management revenue goals.
  • Manages the release of completed and/or partial WIP production jobs.
  • Ensures adequate and controlled inventory levels to meet production, strategic and engineering requirements.
  • Determines material forecast and receipt schedules.  
  • Manages and coordinates receiving, stockroom and shipping functions and supervises materials employees.
  • Coordinates material delivery and kiting of stock room parts for production.
  • Creates and maintains a Master Production Schedule for the issue of kits to Manufacturing.
  • Maintains a cycle count program as well as directing and reconciling any annual physical inventory counts.
  • Support cost reductions through Global Sourcing Group and support/train the Oracle operations in Garden City.
  • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of an approved supplier list.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining supplier performance reporting.
  • Responsible for the training, work performance and conformance of direct reports to company rules, policies and procedures and the proper handling of infractions, grievances, and performance matters.
  • Perform other related duties as required or directed.

 

 

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • The ability to be conversant and understand Spanish is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Excel, Access, PowerPoint and other related software
  • Oracle is a plus
  • Travel: Maximum 10%
  • Must possess solid analytical skills in forecasting and anticipating production needs and capabilities.
  • Must be able to prioritize workload in a multitasking environment, short-term tactical along with longer term strategic activities.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision and have the ability to interact positively and motivate others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with MRP systems; preferably Oracle.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs to include Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule to get the job done.
  • Exceptional communication skills; promoting teamwork and a positive work environment.
  • Experience preferably in the military or aerospace industries.
  • Demonstrated history of successful change management and implementation of operational excellence improvements such as lean manufacturing, demand flow, and six sigma.
  • Strong ability to communicate with all levels of the organization from the production floor to the executive office; strong interpersonal, leadership, & organizational skills.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Proven record of success as a “hands on” operations management leader with at least 5-10 years’ experience in similar role with a history of progressively responsible career progression.  Supply Chain experience.
  • Must have experience in medium volume / high mix production environments preferably, in the military or aerospace industries. 
  • Demonstrated history of successful change management and designing and implementing operational excellence improvements such as lean manufacturing, demand flow, and six sigma.
  • Strong communications, interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations in a fast paced environment
  • Familiar with manufacturing machining environment. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering (Mechanical/Manufacturing) or Supply Chain discipline. Master’s degree in Operations/Industrial Management preferred.

Compensation

Salary Minimum:  $160,000
Salary Maximum:  $190,000
