Summary of Position

The Director of Global Supply Chain will lead the supply chain, supplier and purchasing strategy for the business unit. This role blends the tactical day to day management of the supply chain teams and is a key driver of the strategic alignment to the future state business objectives. The ideal candidate for this role will have extensive experience leading a remote team in a global environment as well as a strong background in MRP best practices, supplier development, sourcing, strong SIOP process partner, inventory management, supplier performance, cost reduction, and PPV targets. This position will be based in Eden Prairie, MN. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Operations.

Position Requirements

Education/Years of Experience

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree plus minimum of 10 years of experience in a Procurement or Supply Chain role, preferably a high mix electro-mechanical manufacturing business
  • Minimum 5 years of Management experience
  • Preferred certifications: APICS: CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) or CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional), and/or ISM: CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management)


Skills & Abilities required:

  • Ability to travel internationally required
  • Must be capable of leading or guiding activities of high-level cross-functional teams
  • Availability early mornings and evenings to work with suppliers and team mates internationally
  • Skilled negotiator with proven track record of success, preferably sourcing commodities related to molded components, cable, PCBAs and electronic components
  • Highly analytical by nature.  Supports key business decisions with robust data, inclusive of all factors impacting business P&L.
  • Experience and understanding of ERP and MRP processes, VMI and Supplier Management programs
  • Inventory: Strong accomplishments and bias for action with regard to reductions in value on hand, significantly improved turnover, and minimal E&O risk, for high mix materials
  • Handles ambiguity effectively when availability of data is limited; quickly develops, implements, and adapts action plans based on evolving findings and results.
  • Balances strategic long-term initiatives with achievement of tactical short-term goals
  • Leading and working remotely with team and staff members in multiple locations, preferably Mexico or Asia
  • Experience working for medical device manufacturing companies preferred


Language Requirements:

  • Strong English inter-personal communication skills both verbal and written
  • Spanish or Chinese language a plus


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drive key initiatives to achieve best total cost structure, quality, lead-time, and material availability by negotiating strategic short- and long-term supplier agreements
  • Negotiate sourcing, pricing and material availability agreements for purchasing staff to buy, plan and expedite appropriately to support production schedule needs.
  • Direct supervision and development of the team with robust succession planning. Team is responsible for all materials planning / purchasing, achieving target inventory values, and works closely with master scheduling, production planning and SIOP functions.
  • Proactively drive the overall strategy of critical commodities and manage related challenges related to market conditions, logistics, processes changes, supplier issues, and material inflation.
  • Forecast and plan according to sales and production schedules, while developing and executing strategies to support business performance targets
  • Develop inventory strategies to meet the current market conditions, managing inventory to support organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, finance, corporate supply chain leadership and similar functions to drive process improvement projects and New Product development
  • Develop appropriate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and set appropriate SMART goals, holding the team accountable for the success of those KPIs.
  • Develop suppliers’ capabilities and expand supply base as needed to improve quality, delivery, and cost structure.
  • Improve existing Supplier Scorecard process with internal team and partners. Develop risk planning strategies with critical suppliers to strengthen overall supply chain stability.
  • Provide guidance for implementation of Supplier Managed Inventory programs and other functional and company-wide process improvements.
  • Assure Service levels are met through Planning, Inventory, and logistics leadership
  • Assure suppliers, processes and procedures are consistent with all quality and compliance requirements. Leading the activities of Purchasing personnel ensuring materials arrive in the manufacturing sites at the right time and right place
  • Balances working capital; DPO and purchase price variance goals
