Job Title: Director, Engineering / R&D

Job Summary:
The Director of Engineering/R&D will lead and manage all development and innovation efforts to develop and release new products and existing products. He/she will work to recruit product development team leaders to handle these efforts and directs R&D teams with budget approvals, scheduling, and deadline management. The Director also works with other teams within the company: such as sales, marketing, and manufacturing to bring new products from the research and development side to market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and develop objectives for the Research and Development (R&D) and Engineering department.
- Establish, lead, and develop a strong, highly disciplined and industry respected engineering organization within SCI
- Drive strategy and execution for long rage product and technology development.
- Identify the need for new processes & procedures globally to ensure common processes are being utilized.
- Establish department and individual objectives and that they are in line with business objectives and strategies.
- Independently analyze, optimize, document, and adhere to new product development, project identification and vendor qualification review
- Obtain funding for existing and future Research and Development (R&D) projects.
- Recruit and develop top engineering talent. Lead and develop talented engineering & R&D teams who will execute on technology delivery through innovative product development.
- Develop standards and procedures to ensure quality standards are met and maintained
- Maintain and optimize budgets to meet goals.
- Understand and collaborate on complete product lifecycle from concept to execution.
- Recommends new technology and ideas to improve sprints and efficiency.
- Build, develops and manages engineering team capable of carrying out initiatives – both local and international.
- Develop and direct the design and development of new products and the improvement of existing products. Develop and attain aggressive project deadlines by holding R&D and Engineering teams accountable to meeting deadlines.
- Work with members of the senior management team to further department and company goals.
- Lead StageGate new product development process.
- Identify and Achieve target VAVE savings.
- Responsible for managing: Application Engineers, Project Engineers, Design Engineers, R&D and International teams.
Minimum Qualifications:
- The Director of Engineering/R&D must have 10 years of experience and a technology centric background that includes strong leadership skills.
- B.S.E.E., from a recognized, fully accredited program is required. MBA is a plus.
- Professionals who have successfully created sustainable competitive advantage by developing releasing to sales new products to be competitive in the marketplace. Individuals who have attained high individual performance will be considered most favorably. The candidate must have previous experience working at senior staff levels with a peer group consisting of other highly seasoned professionals.
- Previous experience leading an engineering team that built successful/proven power products.
- Experienced with engaging senior management and working across the organization to gain support, challenge obstacles, identify action and establish strategy and vision cross functionally.
- Must be a strategic thinker who understands and anticipates customer needs, along with market and technology trends, to establish successful ongoing technology strategies and maintain a company’s technology lead over competitors.
- Engineering operations expertise.
Desired Qualifications:
The Director of Engineering & R&D must possess both technological and business skills. The ability to communicate with executives, clients, employees as well as business partners is required. This key member must be capable of formulating engineering & R&D strategies for new product development that generate profitable revenue growth. High intellect, an inquisitive personality, and desire to meet and work with people of different business backgrounds are essential qualifications. The ability and desire to travel along with the ability to meet strict deadlines are required attributes. Must travel up to 30% globally.
